Day 95, 31 miles
Rogue River Klamath National Forest
Phew! That was a long state. If you want to really know how long just hike it.
At 5:25pm today I had one running shoe in California and one in Oregon. Today is the day to say farewell to California. It has been incredible. Deserts, mountains, wind, hot valleys, lizards and snakes, the Sierras. I loved it all. The best part for me were the people I met. They were kind, encouraging, generous, and went out of their way to help me. Thank-you California.
I took my time this morning. It was such a beautiful camp spot. So peaceful. While I sat and drank my coffee I watched two bright coloured humming birds whizz about above me. It’s another sunny, clear day.
On the trail today was a rabbit. I stopped and quietly took out my camera. I don’t usually have much luck with getting photos of animals as they run away too quickly or like this one, too far away. He was far down the trail but then he charged me! He ran towards me hopping into the air, kicking up his hind legs, and doing half somersaults. He stopped right I front of me. It was the funniest, cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I laughed. I bent over slightly and said, “What are you doing you silly thing?” Maybe he was thinking the same about me. He then hopped up onto a ledge and into the bush beside the trail. He stayed there and kept one eye on me. It made my day. It was so cute.
I don’t know why this toilet is here in the middle of nowhere. It has a nice view though.
