Day 117, 33.5 miles
Mount Adams Wilderness Gifford Pinchot National Forest
The morning went so quickly. Easy trail through the cool, dark forest. The smell of the trees and mountain flowers remind me of hikes at home. We stopped for lunch at a wooden bridge that crossed a cold water creek.
Sam is meeting a friend in Trout Lake and needs to buy more supplies. We were going to hitch into the community. But when I got to the road that crossed the pct, it was only 2:30. I don’t need to buy any food, I already have too much. I’m not ravenous for town food any more, I’m not so hungry. It’s such a great day. I left Sam a note on the trail that said I was carrying on.
Lots of other hikers about. Many people are doing the pct southbound. There are lots of day hikers out too.
The trail opened up to a burn. I could see Mount Adams through the charred trees. It seemed to take forever to get any closer to it. The trail went towards the west of the face, then the east. Which was it going to be? Finally the trail picked the west side of the mountain to go around. What a pretty hike. Flowers, meadows, streams. I finally stopped just past Lewis River. I found a great tent site. After getting my stove going and setting up my tent, the clouds opened up to show Mount Adams right above me. Wow, what a beautiful spot.

Love, love , love, my tent. I can set it up anywhere. It is free standing. I only have to peg it down when it is raining, snowing, or windy. It has been reliable and tough. BA Copper spur 1

I stumbled upon your blog last night while searching for hiking trails in Ontario & read for hours! I couldn’t stop pouring over your posts from beginning until the most recent. What an amazing journey you’re on! Thank you for sharing it all, I can’t wait to read more. Your pictures and brutal honesty about your experiences are beautiful! Someday I would love to section hike portions of the PCT. Good luck with the rest of your hike, I’ll be following your blog!
